RUSSIA has started a development of a new modification of the Su-30SM multi-role fighter jet, which has been confirmed by the source in the aviation industry. “The SUKHOI design bureau started a process on development and design works to create the Su-30SMD modernized fighter jet. This modification will receive the most advanced Russian aircraft engine AL-41F-1S (izdelye 117S), which is currently installed on the Su-35S fighter jet, produced in series", the unnamed source has informed.
According to his statement, these works are carried out in cooperation with the "IRKUT" company, which serially produces Su-30SM fighter jets. "The Su-30SMD's new engine´s test flights are due to take place in 2020. According to the results of the development and design works, a decision will be taken - whether it is worth to equip all Su-30SM´s that are already in service with this type of engines."
The Su-30SM highly maneuverable multi-role fighter jet was developed by SUKHOI's design bureau and is serially produced at IRKUTSK aviation plant - a subsidiary of IRKUT corporation. The Su-30SM two-seat fighter jet is equipped with an radar with active phased array antenna and thrust vectoring nozzles. It´s capable to attack air, ground and sea targets. The AL-41F-1S (izdelye 117S) jet engine was developed by the LYULKA design bureau (belongs to the consortium OAK). It is a two-spool two-shaft modular structure with thrust vectoring and FADEC digital control. It is currently installed on Su-35S jet.
